Sworn translation of an employment contract or payslip

Payslips and an employment contract are needed when a body has to check how much you earn and on what terms: a consulate for a visa, a bank for a mortgage, a landlord. We translate them with every item and amount as in the original, into a PDF signed and stamped by a sworn translator.

    What this translation is for

    Sworn translation of an employment contract or payslip: what to know before ordering

    Who asks for translated employment documents

    Italian documents for use abroad (Italian into English, French, Spanish, German, Romanian or Arabic):

    • a visa or permit application in another country that requires proof of employment or income;
    • a mortgage or lease abroad, when the bank or landlord wants your latest payslips and contract;
    • a transfer to your employer's office abroad, or an application for a new job.

    Foreign documents for use in Italy:

    • Italian consulate, for visas that require proof of income or activity abroad, such as the self-employment or elective residence visa;
    • Italian banks, for a mortgage or loan with income earned abroad;
    • court or lawyer, for separation, maintenance or employment disputes;
    • recognition of professional experience gained abroad, when a body asks for documentary proof.

    The items on an Italian payslip, translated

    An Italian payslip is dense with acronyms: gross and net pay, INPS contributions, IRPEF income tax with regional and municipal surcharges, TFR severance, accruals for the 13th and 14th month, grade and the CCNL collective agreement applied. The translator renders every item and keeps the acronyms, with a short note at first mention when a foreign reader could not otherwise understand them. Amounts stay in euro, as in the original: no currency conversion. The same applies the other way round for foreign payslips.

    The employment contract

    In the contract we translate the parties, duties, place of work, duration (fixed-term or permanent), probation period, hours, pay, notice and reference to the collective agreement, with signatures and stamps. Annexes mentioned in the contract are translated only if you upload them and need them.

    What it costs

    25 € per page. Three single-page payslips are three pages; an employment contract usually runs to two to six. Enter the total number of pages in the order; if in doubt, we confirm the total before starting. Signed and stamped PDF by email within 24-48 working hours.

    Common mistakes with payslips and contracts

    • Translating payslips for a different period from the one requested, or skipping a month.
    • Uploading only the first page of a two-page payslip.
    • Translating the contract without the annexes it refers to, when the body wants the full text.
    • Filing unsigned printouts when the consulate or bank asks for documents signed or stamped by the employer.

    FAQ

    Questions about this translation

    How many payslips do I need translated?
    Those for the period the body asks for: often the last three or six. Check the request before ordering; each single-page payslip counts as one page.
    Are acronyms like INPS, IRPEF or TFR translated?
    The acronyms stay in the original, because they identify Italian bodies and institutions, and come with a short explanation at first mention. The other payslip items are translated in full.
    Are amounts converted into another currency?
    No. The translation gives amounts in the currency of the original. If the foreign body wants an equivalent value, it calculates it or you state it separately.
    Does the employer have to translate the contract for the decreto flussi?
    In the decreto flussi nulla osta application, filed online by the employer, translations are not normally needed. They may be needed later, at the consulate for the visa or for subsequent procedures: check your consulate's list.
    Can I also have the Certificazione Unica (CU) translated?
    Yes, many foreign bodies ask for it as proof of annual income. You can upload it in the same order as the payslips: each page counts as one page.
    Do payslips have to be signed or stamped?
    It depends on the receiving body: some accept the payslip downloaded from the employer's portal, others want a signature or stamp. We translate the document as you upload it, signatures and stamps included.
