From Spanish into Italian

Spain and Latin America mostly send civil status records: birth, marriage, death, often in series to rebuild a line of descent. Then come criminal records, academic qualifications and driving licences. Argentina, Uruguay, Venezuela, Peru, Colombia and Ecuador are parties to the Hague Convention: the apostille goes on the original in the issuing country, then the record is translated with its apostille. A Spanish record falls under Regulation (EU) 2016/1191, which removes the apostille. In Italy the reference remains article 33 of Presidential Decree 445/2000.

A warning for anyone preparing a citizenship application by descent: the rules were restricted in 2025 by Decree-Law no. 36/2025. Before having the whole chain of records translated, check with the consulate or the Comune that your application is still possible and which documents are really needed. One translation fewer costs less than a rejected application.

From Italian into Spanish

The destination country decides which form it accepts: ask the foreign office before you order. For a civil status record going to Spain, ask your Comune for the EU multilingual standard form.
